Report 2017-119 Recommendation 20 Responses

Report 2017-119: California State University: It Has Not Provided Adequate Oversight of the Safety of Employees and Students Who Work With Hazardous Materials (Release Date: April 2018)

Recommendation #20 To: Sacramento, California State University

To increase its oversight of chemical safety, Sacramento should, by June 2018, specify how often the new chemical committee should meet and then ensure that it meets as frequently as required and that it proactively addresses issues related to chemical hygiene and safety on campus.

60-Day Agency Response

Sacramento State has established an Executive Safety Committee (ESC) to serve as the chemical committee required by its chemical plan, among other functions. The ESC charge specifies that the committee will meet monthly during the academic year. The ESC held meetings for February, March, and April 2018 consistent with the committee charge, and the minutes from these meetings demonstrate that the ESC is proactively addressing issues related to chemical hygiene and safety on campus. The ESC meeting schedule is posted on the campus website. At this time, ESC meetings have been scheduled through February 2019.
